PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS NEWSLETTER FOR DECEMBER 3, 2012 MEETING

Website: pueblo-west-quilters.blogspot.com / email: pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

Hope you had a bountiful Thanksgiving and counted your many blessings. Our last meeting of the year is our annual Christmas Party with dinner, games, gift exchange and good company on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. Only members who have paid for their dinner will be able to attend.

We will be meeting at our usual place, Gabby’s Diner, doors opening at 6:00pm with dinner being served between 6:15 and 6:30pm. If you wish to participate in the gift exchange (voluntary participation) make up a table runner kit, using any pattern you choose and include the necessary fabrics for the top and binding (backing and batting not required). Wrap your gift and enclose a card with your name on it so whoever receives the gift will know who to thank. The Christmas Committee will be in charge of the evening’s activities and gift exchanges.

I am honored to have served as your Pueblo West Quilters president this year. Without you, the members, this organization wouldn’t exist and I would like to give a very appreciative and big THANK YOU to all who have helped make this year possible. And thanks goes to the members who made blocks and worked on the Thank You quilt for Ben and Gabby, with special acknowledgement to Sandy McDaniel for quilting it and Jean McDonald for doing the binding. And most of all, I want to thank, with heartfelt gratitude, my most wonderful board who made my job ever so much easier - Patsy Morris, Heidi Gard and Rosie Gould. Thank you, Thank you.

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS NEWSLETTER FOR NOVEMBER 5, 2012 MEETING

Website: pueblo-west-quilters.blogspot.com / email: pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

Halloween is almost here so don’t let the ghosts and goblins scare you away from our November meeting. We’ll be having a “hauntingly” good time sharing everyone’s challenge results! Please bring your STEP-UP to a Higher Level of Excellence items and/or your Monogram Paint Chip Challenge project to this meeting. Please tell us your story of how you have improved your quilting skills, or overcame a particular obstacle with the Step Up Challenge. Be sure to also bring the paint chips with the color names that start with the same first letter as your 3-letter monogram to have those colors compared to your resulting project. I had lots of fun doing this challenge and hope you did too.
We will also have regular Sew N Share, so if you didn’t participate in the two challenges, you can still bring in any completed quilts or projects that you would like to share with the club. I suspect we’re going to have a wonderful quilt show of an evening. Encourage your friends to come see the show.

Also, the people from Quilters Giftshop (also do the Quilters Travel Guide) will be at the meeting with some of the many items they have to offer for sale, so bring your gift buying list and your cash or plastic and get an early start on the holidays, or other gift buying occasions.

As you know, Judy Visalli, Janet Flick or Chris Magan may have called you to consider volunteering for one of the board positions. If you have done so, thank you so very much. We will be voting for the proposed 2013 executive board at this meeting. Only paid members may vote. The official installation of new officers will occur as the first order of business at the Jan. 2013 meeting.

A reminder about our Christmas Party on Dec. 3rd. We will be meeting at our usual place, Gabby’s Diner, and dinner will be $8.00 - PWQ members only. Your money HAS to be paid by this meeting, Nov 5, in order to attend the Christmas dinner. (The balance of the dinner costs will be paid by the PWQ treasury.) If you wish to participate in the gift exchange (voluntary participation) it is a table runner kit, made by you from your stash. Lots of free table runner patterns are available on the internet, or you can make your own pattern or purchase a pattern. Be sure to follow all copyright restrictions when obtaining a pattern.
Things to bring to the meeting:

______ name tag

______ In house drawing funds

______ Funds for Ways & Means PWQ mugs ($5) pens($2) and pins($3)

______ Funds to shop at the Quilters Giftshop tables

______ completed BOM for club drawing - scrappy blocks presented by Janet Flick

______ completed BOM in red, white & blue for wounded warrior quilts

______ fat quarter for Fat Quarter Exchange - Autumn or Harvest themed

______ LUV quilts or pillowcases

______ Items for Sew N Share

______ STEP-UP or Monogram Paint Chip Challenge projects

Happy Quilting and see you at the meeting, Katya

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS GUILD NEWSLETTER FOR OCTOBER 1, 2012

Website: pueblo-west-quilters.blogspot.com / email:pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

Fall is in the air, the trees are changing colors. And did you get
inspired by Susie’s and Becky’s tools demos to try a new project?
Always more ideas and tools to help us be creative.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the thank you “Purple and
Pink By Request” quilt for Ben and Gabby presented to them at the Sept
10 meeting. They are very appreciative of our gift.

We’ve collected lots of STEP-UP challenge forms so I know our Nov
meeting is going to be quite the awesome Quilt Show, especially with
all the Paint Chip Monogram challenge results to display too. It’s not
too late to still participate in these activities. And encourage all
your friend to come to that meeting.

PLEASE, please, consider “stepping up” for the PWQ Executive Board for
2013. Our club is so great because of the members and we do want to
keep it going. It can be lots of fun to work with your quilting
friends to accomplish this. Nominating committee members (Judy
Visalli, Janet Flick or Chris Magan) will be calling to accept your
volunteering for one of the board positions! Thank you.

The Christmas Party committee has things well under way for a fun and
joyous time on Dec. 3rd. We will be meeting at our usual place,
Gabby’s Diner, and dinner will be $8.00 - PWQ members only. The
balance of the dinner costs will be paid by the PWQ treasury. If you
wish to participate in the gift exchange, it is a table runner kit,
made by you from your stash. Lots of free table runner patterns are
available on the internet, or you can make your own pattern or
purchase a pattern. Be sure to follow all copyright restrictions when
obtaining a pattern. Updates about the party will follow as they
become available.

Our program presenter for the October meeting is Cyndi McChesney. She
will show us how to make mitered corners, perfect every time.

Things to bring to the meeting:

______ name tag

______ In house drawing funds

______ Fabric sale fundraiser funds - now only $2.00/yd

______ Funds for Ways & Means PWQ mugs ($5) pens($2) and pins($3)

______ completed BOM for club drawing - Patience Corners made with

______ Items for Sew N Share

Happy Quilting and see you at the meeting
Katya

A NOTE ABOUT PAINT CHIP CHALLENGE**
I have had a lot of questions about the "colors" of the challenge.
Yes you may use more than  3 fabrics as long as the 3 colors you
choose are in that fabric, no other colors.
Example:  My colors are, white, pale yellow, and dark green,  my
fabric colors are those 3 solids PLUS yellow on white polka dots,
white on yellow polka dots, yellow and white checked, yellow and white
swirled. So I will use white as my background with all the other
colors forming flower petals and stems.  I hope this clears up some of
the confusion.
The 3 colors mixed any way you want.
There won't be any quilt police for this so just have fun and match as
close as you can!!!!

The Summer is flying by, albeit a hot and dry one. We hope you had fun
at the July Celebrate America party on July 9th. I sure did. We still
have some bottled water leftover from that meeting and it will be
available at the next meetings until it is gone, so if you forget to
bring water, there will some available. Sorry, all the goodies are now
history. Doors open at 6:30, meeting starts at 7:00pm.

We are still accepting STEP-UP to a Higher Level of Excellence Pledge
forms. Remember, you are only challenging yourself, as there will be
NO judging or any such thing when you show your successes at the Nov.
meeting. The monogram-paint chip challenge can also be used for a
STEP-UP pledge, but we encourage everyone to try this as your results,
hopefully a completed quilt or project, will not be judged either.
Deadline for this challenge is the Nov meeting.

I am still requesting a volunteer to quilt Ben and Gabby’s quilt. If
you would prefer not to quilt on a muslin backing, please inform us of
what you would like on the back, or get your preferred backing and
submit your receipts with your offer to quilt this thank you gift.
Remember, many hands make the work go faster and all efforts to keep
PWQ progressing forward are appreciated. The only real deadline for
having Ben & Gabby’s quilt done is so we can present it to them no
later than the Nov meeting. Thank you Jean McDonald for offering to
bind the quilt.

Reminder that you still have until Aug 31 to subscribe for only $15
each, the following magazines: Love of Quilting, McCall’s Quilting,

donate another $5.00 to PWQ to make this offer similar to the Fons &
Porter’s fundraising for the local club program that ran earlier this
year.

The deadline for entries to the CO State Fair is Friday, Aug 3,
receiving date is Aug 9, judging is Aug 11 and the Fair runs from Aug
23 thru Sept 3. Good luck to all who enter.

quilter and hand appliqué teacher Tina Giacomel-Mort, who resides in

July Meeting Events

The July Meeting was called to order with the usual business meeting to follow, our monthly exchanges, ie Fat Quarter, Block of the Month, etc.

Then came the Sew and Share portion - a few photos are seen here however there were many more so I would suggest you hop over to the right side of the screen scroll down to the Pueblo West Quilters Guild Albums, click on those words to see lots of photos, which very efficiently chronicles the evenings events.

Notice all the red, white and blue? Kind of striking, huh?

The  program for the evening was an Ice Cream Social/Games - these were team games,   -  with prizes I might add..pictured here are most of the teams...more photos....enjoy.

After which we disbanded to wait another month for the next meeting. If you wish to join the fun - we usually meet the first Monday of the month - see the top of this page for more information. You could even email to the address for more information or watch the paper it is in there too.

The Block of the Month can also be found in the Pueblo West Quilters Guild Album.

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS - NEWSLETTER FOR JULY 9, 2012 MEETING

Website: pueblo-west-quilters.blogspot.com /
email: pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

Its HOT, HOT, HOT so hope you are staying cool inside sewing,
quilting, creating. And getting ready for the PWQ annual July ice
cream social night which will be on the SECOND Monday, July 9, by vote
of the membership last January. Weird when July 4th hits during the
middle of the week, huh? The Executive Board has put together a fun
evening of refreshments, games and camaraderie so come and join the
festivities. The theme, fittingly, is Celebrate America and will
feature patriotic gifts and decorations, so wear your reds, whites and
blues. Also, our Sew N Share will consist of only items that are red,
or white or blue or any combination of those 3 colors. The items do
not need to be patriotic and they can be items that have been shown
before. Limit of only 3 items per person, please. Meeting time 7:00pm,
at Gabby’s diner. Doors open at 6:30pm.

Our Sew Saturday was lightly attended, but we got the top of Ben and
Gabby’s quilt completed. Jean McDonald has offered to do the binding
on the quilt once it is quilted. Who is going to quilt it? Please get
a written bid to me by the July 9th meeting, all you long-arm
quilters. Patsy Morris quilted the thank you quilt last year, without
charge, and being on this year’s board, is not placing a bid, so
please help us out. Because of all the seams on the quilt top, the
club will purchase a fat-back for this quilt to make the quilting
easier.

Reminder that you have until Aug 31 to subscribe for only $15 each,
the following magazines: Love of Quilting, McCall’s Quilting, Quilters
Newsletter, Quiltmaker and McCall’s Quick Quilts. Please see Rosie
Gould, our Treasurer by Aug 31, 2012.

If you are interested in entering the 2012 Pueblo County Fair, it is
coming up soon. For all rules and info call: CSU Extension 583-6566.
Check in is July 11th. I’ll have a few flyers at the meeting.

Things to bring to the meeting:

______ name tag

______ In house drawing funds

______ Fabric sale funds

______ Funds for Ways & Means PWQ mugs ($5) pens($2) and pins($3)

______ completed BOM for club drawing - Karen’s cat block

Pueblo West Quilters Newsletter for April 2, 2012 Meeting

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS

NEWSLETTER FOR APRIL 2, 2012 MEETING

Website: pueblo-west-quilters.blogspot.com / email:
pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

HAPPY SPRING! Or should I say summer since we’ve had almost summer
like temperatures. Sure hope that the winds haven’t blown your
quilting creativity away.

First of all I’d like to say a great big THANK YOU to the PWQ members
who worked so hard to translate the Alzheimers Association Memories in
the Making artworks into beautiful quilt wall hangings. Since the
finished quilts needed to be turned into AA by March 16th, we won’t be
able to see them all at our April 2nd meeting. 19 quilts were turned
in and the staff at the AA office were totally blown away by our
club’s response and the lovely work. Pictures will be taken at the AA
fundraiser on April 5th and will be posted on our website. Invitations
to the fundraiser will be available at the meeting if you are
interested in attending. The members who made quilts have been
extended comp tickets to the event. Many thanks to the following for
their creative and beautiful work: Patrice Baker, Patty Dunnington,
Rosie Gould, Katya Holen, Patsy Morris, Mari Pretzer, Mary Richardson,
Marilyn Vigil and Judy Visalli.

The April 2nd meeting will be a work night. We’ll be cutting fabric
for the thank you quilt for Gabby and Ben for their generous use of
their restaurant space without charge. So bring your cutting mat,
rotary cutter, and at least one 6” X 24” ruler. If you care to do some
sewing at the meeting, you may do so if you bring your machine,
neutral thread and an iron and ironing surface. The plan is to send
cut strips home with all those who wish to participate to sew at home
and bring the completed block(s) to the next meeting. We’ll have a Sew
Saturday in May to put the top together from all the completed blocks.

A reminder that the annual Pueblo Quilt and Stitch Expo will happen at
the Pueblo Convention Center on April 13 and 14. Also the Southern
Colorado Regional Quilt Show will run in conjunction with the Expo. It
will be held at El Pueblo History Museum running April 12 thru April
21. You could still enter quilts for the SC Regional Show by
contacting Cathy Ortega, Cass Pearson or any other Pride City Quilter
for more info.

We still have a lot of fabric for sale. This is our Ways and Means
project for this year, so please shop at our meeting. Yardages sold as
is for the whole amount at $4.00/yard. Money from this sale is
earmarked for our Christmas Party.

The Colorado Quilting Council will be holding its June meeting in
Pueblo at the Convention Center - June 23. The associated workshop on
June 24 is Bargello Quilts with a Twist. Please consider attending the
meeting and/or the workshop. Pride City Quilters, Calico Quilters,
Pueblo West Quilters and Scrappy Ladies (from Walsenburg) will be
joint hosts for the meeting. All attendees will receive a fat quarter.
The fat quarters are being donated by each of the clubs for this
meeting. PWQ will have an extra basket at our meetings for you to
donate any fat quarters that you don’t have space for or a project
for. Katya is donating ½ of the fat quarters she won from the last
meeting to start us off.

Also, don’t forget to fill out and turn in a personal challenge form
for the STEP UP to a Higher Level of Excellence challenge. You have
until the Nov. meeting to finish your challenge.

Things to bring to the meeting:

______ name tag

______ In house drawing funds

______ Fabric sale funds

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS GUILD NEWSLETTER MARCH 2012

PUEBLO WEST QUILTER
NEWSLETTER FOR MARCH 5, 2012 MEETING

   Website: pueblo-west-quilters.blogspot.com  /  email:
pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

fabric YARDage SALE --  fabric YARDage SALE  -- fabric YARDage SALE!!

Come one, come all to the Pueblo West Quilters March 5, 2012 meeting
and help support the club’s activities by purchasing fabrics donated
to the club for just such a purpose.  There are yardages available
from 1 to 6 yards in a variety of colors and patterns from makers like
Cranston, Markus Bros and RJR, a few batiks, and some Christmas
prints.  All fabric will be sold as is, at $4.00/yard.  We will not be
sub-cutting any of the yardages, so if you don’t want as much as there
is in the bundle, then find someone to share with.  Bring cash, small
bills appreciated, or checks and help support your club.  We are
earmarking the funds from the fabric sale for our annual Christmas
Party.
And a great way to use some of this fabric would be to help support
the Alzheimer’s Association
Memories In The Making fundraiser.  PWQ participated in this worthy
program last year.  Artwork by Alzheimer patients has been chosen by
the Association and is being auctioned off for fundraising on April 5,
2012.  The Alzheimer’s Association has asked if PWQ members could
translate some of the artwork into a matching quilt to also be
auctioned off at the same time.  8½“ X 11” color copies of the artwork
will be available at the Mar. 5 meeting for you to challenge your
creative and sewing skills (remember the STEP-UP personal challenge?)
Turn in is March 16th.  Admittedly that is pretty soon, but we did it
last year and I know there are several of you over-achievers out there
capable of meeting this challenge.  If you want to get started on a
project before the meeting, please contact me to get a picture of one
of the artworks prior to the meeting,
Katya - 547-8476.
Did you have fun doing “Out of the Box” hands on black and white
project at the Feb meeting?  If you’ve finished what you started, be
sure to bring it to Sew N Share.  Could this be your STEP-UP personal
challenge entry?  Extra STEP-UP personal challenge pledge forms will
be available at the sign-in table throughout the year.  Turn in of the
pledge forms is at any time, and the finished challenge projects will
be presented at the November 5, 2012 meeting.
Our program for the Mar. 5 meeting will be presented by Lorraine
Glach.  She will be demo-ing her published apron pattern, and showing
us some other things as well.
Things to bring to the meeting:
