PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS GUILD NEWSLETTER MARCH 2012

PUEBLO WEST QUILTER
NEWSLETTER FOR MARCH 5, 2012 MEETING

   Website: pueblo-west-quilters.blogspot.com  /  email:
pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

fabric YARDage SALE --  fabric YARDage SALE  -- fabric YARDage SALE!!

Come one, come all to the Pueblo West Quilters March 5, 2012 meeting
and help support the club’s activities by purchasing fabrics donated
to the club for just such a purpose.  There are yardages available
from 1 to 6 yards in a variety of colors and patterns from makers like
Cranston, Markus Bros and RJR, a few batiks, and some Christmas
prints.  All fabric will be sold as is, at $4.00/yard.  We will not be
sub-cutting any of the yardages, so if you don’t want as much as there
is in the bundle, then find someone to share with.  Bring cash, small
bills appreciated, or checks and help support your club.  We are
earmarking the funds from the fabric sale for our annual Christmas
Party.
And a great way to use some of this fabric would be to help support
the Alzheimer’s Association
Memories In The Making fundraiser.  PWQ participated in this worthy
program last year.  Artwork by Alzheimer patients has been chosen by
the Association and is being auctioned off for fundraising on April 5,
2012.  The Alzheimer’s Association has asked if PWQ members could
translate some of the artwork into a matching quilt to also be
auctioned off at the same time.  8½“ X 11” color copies of the artwork
will be available at the Mar. 5 meeting for you to challenge your
creative and sewing skills (remember the STEP-UP personal challenge?)
Turn in is March 16th.  Admittedly that is pretty soon, but we did it
last year and I know there are several of you over-achievers out there
capable of meeting this challenge.  If you want to get started on a
project before the meeting, please contact me to get a picture of one
of the artworks prior to the meeting,
Katya - 547-8476.
Did you have fun doing “Out of the Box” hands on black and white
project at the Feb meeting?  If you’ve finished what you started, be
sure to bring it to Sew N Share.  Could this be your STEP-UP personal
challenge entry?  Extra STEP-UP personal challenge pledge forms will
be available at the sign-in table throughout the year.  Turn in of the
pledge forms is at any time, and the finished challenge projects will
be presented at the November 5, 2012 meeting.
Our program for the Mar. 5 meeting will be presented by Lorraine
Glach.  She will be demo-ing her published apron pattern, and showing
us some other things as well.

February Newsletter 2012

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS
NEWSLETTER FOR FEB. 6, 2012 MEETING
 pwquiltersguild@gmail.com

ATTENTION! Due to the road construction on McCulloch Blvd, please
note that the only entrance to the parking lot from McCulloch Blvd for
Gabby’s Diner has been temporarily moved to the very north end of the
parking lot. The access from the rear for that block of businesses is
the same.

Now that that is done - Happy Valentines Day! Hope everyone had fun
at the LUV Quilt worknight at the January meeting. I look forward to
seeing lots of finished LUV quilts in the next few months, either
using that Fat Quarter Breeze pattern, or any other pattern that you
so wish to use.
Please remember to renew your PWQ membership at the Feb. meeting.
Dues are $25.00 per year. Guests are always welcome for a $3.00 fee.
We welcome new members at any time.
We still need volunteers for some of the committees and for
Block-of-the Month presentations. Please consider helping out on one
of the committees.

The February Program is “Out of the Box.” This is a hands on night
which we hope will stimulate your creative juices. You will need to
bring to the meeting a small baggie of black & white fabric scraps or
strips. You do not need big pieces of fabric. Only black on white
prints or white on black prints please. Your scraps will be added to
all other scraps brought that night for the evenings project, so there
is no guarantee you will get to use the scraps that you brought, so
don’t bring anything that you are unwilling to part with. Also bring
scissors to cut with, a glue stick, a writing implement (black pen or
pencil) and a small package of wet-wipes.

Other things you may want to bring to the Feb. 6th meeting:
 _____ In House raffle funds
 _____ Name tag
_____ Completed 3-D flying geese BOM in blues & yellow
_____ 3-D flying geese BOM for Wounded Warriors- in red, white & blue
_____ Funds for Fons & Porter subscription ($20.00) magazine
subscription sign-up ends March 31, 2012
_____ Funds for a PWQ travel mug ($5) or pin ($3) or writing pen ($2)
_____ Fat quarter for fat quarter drawing - any color with hearts on it.
_____ Any completed LUV quilt or other quilt for Sew N Share
 _____ Donation pillow cases.
_____ your own beverage (or snack if you need one.)

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS NEWSLETTER

Volume 13, Number 1                                                                                                            January, 2012

PUEBLO WEST QUILTERS NEWSLETTER
for the January 9, 2012 meeting

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Please note that the January meeting of the Pueblo West Quilters has been changed from the first Monday (January 2nd) to the second Monday of January 9th due to the closeness of the Holidays.  Same place and same time - Gabby's Diner, doors open at 6:30pm, meeting starts at 7:00pm.  With five Mondays in the month of January this year, the Executive Board wanted more organizational time to start the year off right.

On behalf of the new 2012 Board, we'd like to thank the out-going 2011 Board for all the hard work they did in 2011.  It was a busy and fun year.  The Christmas Party was the icing on the cake, so to speak, to end the year with a flourish.

The 2012 Board is excited to work with members and guests, new and old, at the January 9th meeting which is traditionally our LUV Quilt Worknight.  Directions for what to bring to the meeting were passed out at the December meeting and will also follow this Newsletter.  As a reminder, the following ladies volunteered to bring their sewing machines: Patsy Morris, Mary Richardson, Mari Pretzer, Sandy McDonald, Chris Magan.  Also Vicki Becker and Patty Dunnington volunteered to bring ironing boards and irons.  Everyone needs to bring at least one fat quarter in pastels or juvenile prints (or more if you like) cut according to the directions, and cutting tools.  It will be a surprise how this will all come together.  Call me at 547-8476 if you have questions.

As with any new board, there will be changes and one change that you need to know will begin at this January 9th meeting.  We will no longer have refreshments supplied by the Board or any volunteers.  The organization is just getting too big to include refreshment time and still devote the amount of time everyone wants for enjoying Sew N Share and the programs.  So, if you have to have something to drink, (or eat) bring it.  Remember we now have PWQ travel mugs for purchase and you can bring whatever beverage you want to last you through the meeting.

We'll have new sign up sheets at the meeting for the various committees, so please consider helping the club by volunteering for at least one thing during the year so no one has such a heavy load.  The 2012 Board has lots of ideas for the year and we are always open to any ideas from the rest of the membership, so please let us know what you need and want to make PWQ YOUR club.

Remember to bring money to pay your annual dues of $25.00 (guests are $3.00.)  Also funds for in-house drawing, PWQ pens, pins or mugs, and/or Fons & Porter Love of Quilting subscription ($20.00), your red/white/black Block-of-the-Month square (and one in red/white/blue for Wounded Warriors) of which the directions for were passed out at the Dec. meeting and will follow this Newsletter.  We will be having a BOM every month, and Evie Sheldon will be presenting the February BOM at the January 9th meeting. If you completed anything new, please bring it for Sew N Share.

See you Monday, January 9th at 7:00pm.  May 2012 bring you lots of bright fabric and may your sewing machine hum along smoothly all year.

Katya Holen, 2012 PWQ President
